What Could've Been

There was a time
when there was nothing
I wanted more
than to hold you,
to feel you.
To make you feel the same about me.
Just to make you see.

That I didn’t want anyone else.
Regardless of our lack of words,
I just knew it was you,
through your grace,
through your smile.
Understand when I say it was you
that made me want to stick around awhile.

I know you’re a package deal,
and believe me, so am I.
Nobody’s perfect,
but I had to try.

I know your heart belongs to another
yet I wish you could’ve told me where to begin.
And sometimes I‘d like to think if even you wonder
what we’d be doing right now.
Together.
Forever.
