Recollections of a Beloved Encounter By: JoAnna Martin
Although it was so long ago, it's remembered so clear, the night I met my soul mate, from the shadows he appeared. It was night like tonight, a full moon in the sky, the serene sound of crickets and bat wings flapping by. I was sitting on my balcony, alone on this night, silently admiring the moonbeams and starlight. He made not a sound, nor emit the notorious presence of death, I never knew he was there until on my neck, I felt his breath. I jumped to my feet, nearly falling as I tried to rise, backed against the wall, I caught my first glimpse of his eyes. The magnetism in his emerald stare kept me from fleeing his eyes fixed on mine, deep into my soul he was seeing. Before me had stood the most sublime vampire, his very presence spawning unfamiliar desires. Exhilarated by his silent charm and the luster of his skin, my body heat rose as my blood boiled from within. My legs began to tremble as he took my hand, his voice rendering me too weak to stand. He said "Tell me love, that thou hungers for it too, that thou suffers from the longing that I do." My head was swarming with visions of entangled limbs, leaving me unable to focus on anything but him. Enchanted with his every movement, every gesture he made, when he drew near to whisper in my ear, I was neither nervous nor afraid. "My precious one, I shall give thee a glimpse of eternity, the opportunity of an endless lifetime spent in mine company." My body quivered slightly as he planted his lips on mine, and I melted in his arms from a kiss so divine. From that one kiss, the images flashed in my mind, the beauty and temptation of the immortal kind. The two of us hunting for fresh blood under the moonlight, tricking foolish mortals into our fatal vampyric bites. Then collapsing into one another's arms right before dawn, in a death-like sleep, we lay embraced until the light is gone. Forever, time could pass in a similar fashion, if I surrendered to his bloodlust and my own heated passions. The mere thought of spending eternity with him had made me smile. The temptation of everlasting love mesmerizing me for awhile. I was so engrossed in that reverie, I did not even feel his bite, his teeth piercing my flesh as he drank away my life. Fading into him as my life was draining away, heading for darkness, drifting farther from the light of day. And there we stood in deaths embrace, for how long, I do not know, his arms wrapped tenderly around my waist, my heartbeat dangerously slow. With his teeth he punctured a wound in his tongue then pressed our lips together, in the potency of his blood stained kiss, I wanted to be lost forever. The taste of his fiery blood unleashing the shadows once entombed in my soul, sealing our fate of immortality as the invading darkness took control. But eventually he pulled away, the surge of vampyric energy still flooding my veins, our undying hearts joined forever as one, the saint within me silently slain. He looked at me as if for the first time, realizing my darkness now rivaled his own, my spirit licked by the Devil's tongue, he knew he would never again be alone. "Forever we will walk, together, hand in hand, Underneath the nights eternal command."
