Wayward One
By: JoAnna Martin

Beware of my unstable nature
I am the wayward one,
and what an unruly character,
over time, I have become.

Beyond the reach of tranquility,
untamed I remain.
Never has one been capable of
keeping me restrained.

The blood runs cold within my veins,
my heart is full of everything wild.
My eyes burn with a fierce intensity
like those of a reckless child.

And on this night I come to you,
bored and all alone.
Needing someone to feed my wicked passions,
I will take you for my own.

Staring at me from across the bar,
a stranger in the night.
Your eyes lock on mine as I beckon you
to come with me tonight.

You take my hand and follow me,
up to my room we go,
through a door and into the blackness
cut only by the moons pale glow.

Sitting side by side, my hand on your thigh,
the city quiets, the hours pass.
You relax in the false comfort of my company
as I keep filling your glass.

Soon, you grow lightheaded and unsteady
from a few too many glasses of wine,
all it should take now is one swift strike
to make you mine...all mine.

Catching you off-guard,
unprepared for my rapturous attack,
I run my tongue along your neck
and dig my nails into your back.

My teeth sink into your flesh
before realization comes to your rescue,
in just minutes I can bleed you dry,
helpless, there’s nothing you could do.

But fear not, this time
I think I’ll just have a taste.
I’ll savor this moment,
let it not go to waste.

Let the ecstasy embrace you,
pleasure beyond what you can endure,
then peacefully drift off to sleep
under the control of a soul impure.

At another time I’ll come back to you,
for that night I patiently await.
Perhaps then I will take your life,
or in dark passion our bodies will undulate.

Either way, my soul has already seeped into you,
leaving you corrupted,
lost deep within a life like mine
that’s long since been interrupted.

You can try to sooth me with
the comfort of your touch
and your whispered words of love
but it will never be enough.

I will always remain lost,
forever the wayward one.
But soon I’ll take you with me.
Your life will too come undone.
