Remembering A Day of Terror

I would like to take the time to send my condolences to the family and friends of those lost in the tragic events that took place in New York, Washington DC, and Pennsylvania on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. I know I am not the only one reeling from the shocking and terrifying tragedy and my heart goes out to ALL those affected and to those recuperating both mentally and physically. I wish I could express my sorrow for all those children whose parents weren't at school on that Tuesday to pick them up, for anyone who knew any of those people trapped in the building during its last few hours, or for anyone who knew the fire fighters, EMS staff, or police officers who lost their lives while trying to save someone else's. Their heroics have made such an impact on everyone’s lives and though we have lost them, they will never be forgotten, only admired. I would also like to commend those currently involved in the continuous rescue attempts and those who have contributed in other ways such as monetary or blood donations, etc.

I myself have been deeply disturbed by what happened. Having spent the 1st 18 years of my life living in New York, I have been I can’t imagine that of the 100's of times I have driven past the "Twin Towers", knowing that the next time I do, they will be gone. Nothing of them will remain on the NY skyline except the devastating memory of their crumble and the lives they took with them. What happened to all those innocent and defenseless victims was uncalled for, and will be neither forgiven or forgotten.

This is, by far, the saddest event I have ever witnessed. I can't even fathom what kind of a person could commit such a heinous act against humanity. It is times like these that we realize more of just how fragile life can be and that we should appreciate all that we have - you just don’t know when it’s going to be taken away. Our sense of security has already been taken away but it is time to find the strength to stand together and keep our freedom from being taken away. Our bravery and determination will help us to prevail over those that committed this terrorist act. Yes, at first we will all be hurting and needing time to mourn, but eventually, we will move on and will have nothing but vengeance on our minds. Revenge was best summed up by someone on the news (I wish I could remember who...Bush or Powell perhaps?). When referring to the person who did this, he said something along the line of "May God have mercy on your soul.....because the US won't". I hope he's right.
